We had 15 players, from four states (6 NC, 5 KY, 2 MS, and 1 OH) and 1 from St. Croix, USVI. This allowed 7 players in the Master Division playing 7 rounds of Round Robin. There were 8 players in the Majors Division with a bracket of 2 Minors players within this group. They also played 7 rounds of Round Robin.

GM, Alex Moiseyev from Dublin, OH won the 2023 Southern Masters, Mike Ross from Burlington, NC won the 2023 Southern Majors and Edred Brookes from St. Croix, Virgin Islands won the 2023 Southern Minors.

We had a total cash prize fund of $1,920.00 which was a combination of $1,000 from Joe McDaniel, a withdrawal of $600 from the WC Green Trust Fund, Larry Keen $100, $200 from entry fees, and several other smaller contributions.

We welcome Ed Brookes, his wife and daughter, Chisa, from Charlotte, NC who attended the tournament with him.

Our oldest player was Shelby Mays, 82 years old and our youngest was Quinn Brantley, age 16.

Larry Keen, President of Southern States Checker Association (SSCA) and our Southern Tournament Director / Organizer, stated our 2024 Tennessee State Tournament will be held at this venue on March 8th and 9th next year. We have Comfort Suites room rates for March 7 as $94.95 and March 8 as $119.95. Econo Lodge on March 7 as $64.95 and March 8 as $74.95.
